Lindgren had a sneaky good season last year. Put up good numbers playing against men in the allsvenkan. He might end up being a good long term pick.

people that write columns should get their facts straight..

1st: NHL 30-5 years ago was different than now; league is getting younger and younger - young players able to make the step to nhl earlier due to the different style of game being played.

2nd: Euro players normally took longer to come over to NHL - Detroit selected quite a bit of them.

3rd: Last time before this year Detroit picked top10 was 1991..

4th: Detroit had a very good roster, therefor not so much room for recent draftees to directly make the step

so there is NO 'detroit development model' - basically they never had any top picks 1st round, and a very good team; it was never a choice for Detroit to wait a few years, it was just a normal outcome of circumstances.

why do Leafs now 'wait longer with some of the prospects to make step to nhl'?
because they have a very good (forward) group now, not alot of room for youngsters to make the team (top9 fw).

Detroit development model is build a strong team and the consistently draft well. Let players over ripen in the minors (have a strong farm team) and gradually move them in to replace older players as they moved out. So not trading young prospects or picks basically even when you have a good team.

this is BS
EDIT: it's always projected by people who write this, that they chose this as a model for players not to fail in nhl etc. ('make sure they're ready').
basically the red wings had such a good team, that no room for the youngsters, even if they were already ready before (as you say, basically only option for young players was to get on the team filling a spot of an older player leaving).

Yeah anything I've ever read or heard in interviews said that Detroit had an organizational philosophy of being patient with prospects, the Leafs have done the same.

Could also be considered developed properly in stead of rushing them. Especially for dmen.

watch dermott make the team this year.
leafs d sucks, that's why he'll be given the opportunity.
the young forwards just don't have the same chances bc leafs fw group is good.

And it worked for 20 years. What's your point. Whether it was on purpose or not doesn't matter.

If dermott is better than rosen borgman and marincin then yes he'll be on the team. But do you know who won't be on the team even if he has a great training camp. Liljegren

No chance Dermoot makes the opening roster.

They'll send him back to the AHL for sure. 100%.

He might get a call up later on during the year, but No chance he starts with the Leafs

If he is the 4th best dman at camp meaning he out plays hainsey Carrick marincin rosen and borgman I think he makes the team as 3rd pairing LD. If it's close I think he gets sent down.

Dermott makes the team - after Rielly he's Leafs best LH d-man already; he'll be on the 3rd pair whole season

So I'm guessing Gardiner is your 2017-2018 Nylander.
